Ashburton Salt Project Update – March 2021

The Ashburton Salt project is a solar salt project being developed by K+S Salt Australia

The proposed project will be located on salt flats south-west of Onslow.

ABOUT ASHBURTON SALT

  • If developed, Ashburton Salt will produce 4.5mt of salt per year.

  • It will be shipped from site using low-draft transhippers.

  • The salt will be sold to buyers in Asia for use in industrial processes.

  • If developed, we intend on employing locally where possible.

LOCAL ECONOMIC IMPACT

CONSTRUCTION

  • 270 construction jobs.

  • $144 million spent in Onslow region (including Exmouth and Karratha). $292 million spent across WA.

OPERATION

  • 80-90 local, permanent positions.

  • $12.8 million each year injected into the local community through these new jobs.

  • $48 million a year boost (multiplier effect) to local community (just under $2 billion over 40 years).
